If you like Harry Potter. . . .
Can't wait for the new Harry Potter book? (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, due out on July 16.) Here are some titles that will help you pass the time:
The Book Without Words: a Fable of Medieval Magic Avi 
A cast of colorful characters (including a poor orphan girl and a talking raven) are involved with a mysterious book containing blank pages that can only be read by desperate, green-eyed people. For grades 5-8.
Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry
This fast-paced pirate adventure is a "prequel" to J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan; among other things it explains how Peter is able to fly. For grades 4-9.
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
12 year old Meggie learns that her father, a bookbinder, can "read" characters to life when one of the evil men from a book kidnaps them. For grades 4-9.
The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson
Four creatures from a magical island travel to rescue a baby prince who was kidnapped 9 years earlier. For grades 4-6.
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

The Capture by Kathryn Lasky (the first in the series, Guardians of Ga’Hoole)
