New eBOOKs at the Henrietta Public Library

The holidays left many of our patrons with a new eBOOK device.  Whether the device was a Sony Reader, Nook, or the iPAD, the questions are coming to our reference librarians: Can you tell me how to download books to my ___________ (fill in the blank)?  With the exception of the Amazon Kindle which is supported only by downloads from Amazon’s Kindle store, the Overdrive website at the Monroe County Library System, www.libraryweb.org, contains thousands of free books to download to your new eBook. All you need is a valid Monroe County library card!  Henrietta is one of many public libraries who are buying titles for library system patrons to share.

There are two basic ways to search for eBooks in the online catalog:

1. Using a keyword search, type in a title (omit a, an, and the) then add eBook to your search string. If the title is available as an eBook, it will have “eBook” at the far right side of your screen. When you click on the title it will bring up the full record.  Within the record will be a hot link to the Overdrive website’s link for that particular title.
   
   
2. Go to the MCLS website at www.libraryweb.org., look for the blue banner and click on Download. A drop down menu will appear, click on eBooks and you are taken to the Overdrive website. At the Overdrive website you can look up titles by author/creator (do not use directory style here) or by title or keywords. On the left hand side of the page are ways to browse by genres and “just added titles. This page will also tell you if you need to add your name to a waiting list, how many holds are on the item, and how many copies are available.
