The Disaster Artist

May 15, 2016 at 12:29 PM

One of my favorite things is getting so caught up in a story that I gulp it down in just a few days, which is something that recently happened to me with the audio version of The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell (also available in print). Sestero, an actor, reads his own memoir about befriending eccentric filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and making the cult favorite bad film, The Room (not to be confused with Room, which is another thing entirely). Sestero’s chronicle is wacky, full of antics and strong personalities, which he highlights through brilliant expression and mimicry. You’ll be hearing more about this story this fall, when James Franco plans to release his star-studded (Seth Rogen! Alison Brie! Bryan Cranston!) film adaptation. Beneath the humor, this is a sometimes moving exploration of ambition, motivation, and what really matters in life.--Adrienne Furness, Library Director
