Meet New Board Member Timothy Chapman
Timothy Chapman grew up on the West Side of Rochester, attending various schools in the Greece and Churchville-Chili school districts. As a youth, he would preview and recommend young adult books for his grandmother, the head librarian for the Ogden Farmers’ Library and the Church librarian for the Spencerport Wesleyan Church. After graduating from Churchville-Chili High School, Tim attended college at Houghton College, where he did Army ROTC through Saint Bonaventure University. After nearly a decade of service as an officer in the U.S. Army, where Tim spent several years in Korea and served two year-long deployments to Iraq, his passion for learning (and reading) led him back to academia where he earned his J.D. and his M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
Tim was recently admitted to the New York State Bar and is currently a transactional attorney in the Public Finance group at Nixon Peabody LLP. He is excited to be back in the Rochester area near family and is making Henrietta his new home. The opportunity to serve as a Trustee for his local library is a perfect fit for Tim, as he has been an avid reader for many years and probably owns enough books to open his own mini-library.
While Tim recognizes the convenience of e-readers and digital books, he does not own one. Whether a thrilling book, sports magazine, legal reading or the daily newspaper, Tim still loves that new book smell and actually turning the pages!
In addition to serving as a Trustee for the Library, Tim also works on pro-bono legal efforts in the areas of Immigration and Veteran’s Issues, serves on the Education/Summer Curtain Call Committee at Geva Theatre Center and is a member of the United Way’s Young Leader Club, where he serves on the Advisory Council.
